Portugal is the far south-west run — the Atlantic corridor across France and Spain to Porto, Lisbon or the Algarve. The longest of our routes, and one we know well.
Removals to Portugal take the western edge of the Continent. From the UK the load heads down to the Channel, then through France and across northern Spain before it reaches Portugal at all. It is the longest of the four European routes we run — which is exactly why the packing, the paperwork and the planning are worth getting right from the start.
The route
We cross from Dover or Folkestone and drive down through western France towards the Basque coast, into Spain past San Sebastián and Burgos, then across the Meseta towards Salamanca and the Portuguese border. From there it is on to Porto and the north, down the A1 to Lisbon and the Silver Coast, or the longer push south to the Algarve — Faro, Lagos and the resort towns. Each destination changes the driving and the delivery, and we plan the far-end access, whether a Lisbon apartment or a villa down an Algarve lane.
Customs & paperwork
Portugal needs a customs declaration and a full inventory for a household move, as everywhere in the EU since Brexit. Used belongings brought as your main home can usually come in under transfer-of-residence relief, and Portugal typically wants an NIF and supporting documents. We prepare the declaration and transit paperwork, tell you what to supply, and manage the frontier crossings so the load keeps moving across two borders rather than one.
What we move, and storing before you go
Whole homes, part-loads and smaller commercial moves all travel the corridor, with furniture dismantled and protected and fragile things packed on a labelled inventory. Portuguese moves often wait on a completion or a renovation, so our secure storage holds your goods until it is time to ship. Any part of the move that stays in the UK is handled as an ordinary house move.
